Cynthia started her career by modeling in New York. A five-year contract was signed by Wihelmina Models. She then was the face for Essence Magazine. In addition to being Cynthia's initial cover on Essence one of the top-selling covers in the magazine's history, it was also a personal favorite of then editor-in-chief Susan Taylor. Cynthia landed her second magazine cover shortly after, and this created the foundation for her lucrative career. The next step was Paris and Milan and Milan, which was where she walked on the runways during Paris as well as Milan Fashion Week. Cynthia was able to spend almost a full year living abroad. After her return, her popularity skyrocketed. Her job was to work on advertisements with Maybelline Oil of Olay Macy's. Magazine editorials for Vogue, Glamour, Elle, Essence and Vanity Fair soon followed. Cynthia's career was boosted by her being chosen before Naomi Campbell for the co-starring part in "Without You", I'm nothing" with Sandra Bernhadt.
