Mitchell lost her best friend Angela in a road accident. she was only fifteen years old. The loss was very painful for Mitchell and the track Angel in her first album composed to honor Angela. Mitchell has also spoken about the experiences within Chicken Soup, for Preteen Souls and 7th Heaven: Nothing Endures But Change.
